Dear Janna,

2012 is off to a fantastic start.  The weather has been warm, business has been active and results have been awesome.

As I review client results this last year I am seeing 20 - 30% growth in revenue and profits, more time to spend with family, more energy and balance in the workplace, and a better team to leverage against.  I love seeing results from clients.  These are their rewards for growing personally and professionally.  They learn to think out of the box, do new things, stretch in new ways, and challenge the status quo in themselves and in their business.

Areas for growth for me include learning from my clients, reading, workshops I attend and especially the ActionCOACH conference that takes place in the US once per year.  I always return with energy (even more than normal), focus and determination to make a difference.

If you have opportunities to connect with like minded business owners I would strongly encourage you to do so.

One way is to attend my workshops.  Look for more information in this newsletter.

Dare to Dream

Why are we, as a society, having such a hard time dreaming?  As children, we dream on a regular basis.  We fly, conquer the world, create imaginary friends, and plan to accomplish things never considered by anyone 20 years older.  Then the aging process starts and conformity begins.  We conform not only in our behavior (which is mostly good), but in our ability to dream.  One by one, we are told (and often not outright), that our dreams are impossible. Our dreams are unreasonable, not possible, or even why would you ever try that - you might FAIL!

What this creates is a society of control freaks.  These control freaks become business owners who want it done their way, as that way is the only right way.  What they are losing is the ability to leverage the world to get things done for them.  They don't hire for new ideas, they hire for fitting into the box the business owner created.  The problem:  business owner wealth creation is often best accomplished by people with the desire to dream in a world without boxes.

Dream without boxes - what does that mean?  It means stepping out and doing things differently.  A perfect example is Steve Jobs, he created something that was new and different that we didn't know we needed (actually we didn't), yet how many of us want to go back to what life was like prior to Apple creations?   You need to get away from the day to day so you have time to dream.  It is learning to always challenge your own thinking and be open.  You also must be willing to let others challenge your thinking - they also have dreams that might just allow you to fly, conquer the world, and accomplish things you were told were impossible.

Dream dreams for yourself, your family, and your business.  Dreams do come true, but only if there is a dream in the first place.

Pikes Peak Library District Research Help

Have you ever wanted to know how many potential customers lived within a 10 mile radius of your business?  Or maybe how many had dogs, cats or are grandparents?  Targeted marketing is more effective than marketing to the masses.  The PPLD can help.  They offer access to research databases and it's free with your library card!  One useful report is described below.

U. S. Consumers/Lifestyles - This can be used to identify the best potential customers for you and includes demographics and spending habits. This gives basic information for mailing lists and detailed information on who spends the most money in 114 categories. The consumer snapshot section will identify areas that are high in many demographics including gender, age, ethnicity, child, grandparent or veteran. It also includes language, religion and politics, home values and incomes as well as occupations and housing. This section gives the data in charts and graphs as it protects individual status. Spending habits are ranked on a scale of 0 to 9 with 0 being no purchases to 9 being the highest number of purchases and only shows those names and addresses of those spending in the 6-9 range on specific items like cars, apparel, gardening, sports and many more items.

This can be used to identify those that have the most potential to spend in areas of interest to you. You can create mailing lists to use in your business.

Happy researching!
